Four individuals, including Constable Sujon, have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the killing of six people in Dhaka’s Chankharpul area during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5.

On Monday (July 14), they were formally presented before Tribunal-1, presided over by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumdar and two other members.

Previously, on Thursday (July 3), the tribunal concluded the hearing on the charge framing against eight accused, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman Habib. An order on the matter was scheduled for July 14.

The four presented in court include dismissed Shahbagh Police Inspector Arshad and three constables — Sujon, Imaaz Hossain Imon, and Nasirul.

Meanwhile, four other accused — all high-ranking former police officials — remain fugitives. They are: ex-DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakrabarti, ex-Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna zone Shah Alam Md. Akhtarul Islam, and former Assistant Commissioner Md. Imrul of the same zone.

On the day of the hearing, defense lawyers filed petitions seeking acquittal of the detained four, while court-appointed attorneys did the same on behalf of the absconding accused. After listening to both sides, the tribunal scheduled July 14 for its order.

The tribunal had earlier accepted the formal charges on May 25 under the category of crimes against humanity related to the killing of six unarmed individuals during the mass uprising in Chankharpul on August 5.
