The International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumder, on Sunday began the seventh day of hearings in the case filed over crimes against humanity during the July–August crackdown. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, along with another accused, are facing trial.
Dr. Gias Uddin, a forensic physician from Rangpur Medical College, appeared in court to give testimony. Also present in the courtroom was Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who had earlier been turned from an accused into a state witness.
So far, 16 people have testified in the case. Last Wednesday, four witnesses—including two doctors and a nurse—gave statements, describing the chaotic conditions in hospitals during the crackdown and the obstacles they faced in providing treatment.
Several witnesses demanded justice against Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan, Obaidul Quader, and senior police officials, accusing them of direct responsibility for the atrocities.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the tribunal in Meherpur ordered the imprisonment of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain in a case related to enforced disappearances and killings.
In another case, linked to the Shapla Square massacre, the tribunal granted one-day remand each for former IGP Shahidul Haque and three others who were recently arrested.
Additionally, the tribunal extended the deadline until October 26 for investigators to submit a report in the enforced disappearance case against Sheikh Hasina, Ziaul Ahsan, and nine others.
