Since yesterday, temperatures have risen across many regions of the country as fog has lessened, and the bone-chilling winds have subsided. Residents in Dhaka and other parts of the country have found some relief from the intense cold of the past three days. However, this slight rise in temperature is expected to last for two to three days, after which colder weather may return. Light rain or drizzles are also forecasted in a few areas.

Meteorologist Abdur Rahman stated that temperatures in Dhaka, both during the day and at night, are likely to increase slightly until Wednesday. From Thursday onwards, temperatures may drop again, intensifying the feeling of winter. Light rain is also possible in some regions on Monday and Tuesday.

In Dhaka, thick fog and a noticeable chill had persisted for days until the sun appeared briefly on Saturday, pushing temperatures up. Dhaka’s minimum temperature on Saturday was 13°C, rising to 15°C on Sunday morning. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported dry weather across most of the country for the next 24 hours, except for light rain in parts of the Rangpur Division.

The department also noted that light to moderate fog could occur overnight and early morning nationwide. Nighttime temperatures are likely to remain steady, with slight daytime temperature drops in Rangpur. A mild cold wave may emerge in certain areas after Thursday.

The lowest temperature recorded on Sunday morning was 9.7°C in Tetulia, Panchagarh, slightly up from 9.4°C the previous day. Despite the increase, the region remains under a mild cold wave. Other minimum temperatures include 10.6°C in Jashore and 12°C in Gopalganj and Chuadanga. The highest temperature was 29.2°C in Srimangal, Sylhet.

Synoptic analysis indicates that the extension of a sub-continental high-pressure system stretches to West Bengal, with a seasonal low over the South Bay of Bengal.

Transport Disruptions

Thick fog disrupted air and river transport. On Sunday morning, two international flights landed at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport instead of Dhaka due to poor visibility. The flights, one from Dubai and another from China, resumed their journey to Dhaka after a two-hour delay.

On rivers, ferry operations on the Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia routes were suspended for several hours due to fog. Abdus Salam, an official at BIWTC, reported that ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were halted at 1 a.m. Saturday as thick fog obscured channel markers. Operations resumed later in the morning.
