Bangladesh’s Law Minister Asaduzzaman has alleged that certain groups operating behind the scenes are attempting to facilitate the return of what he described as “fascist forces” to the country’s political landscape.

Speaking at a gathering in Banani, Dhaka, marking Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on Wednesday, the minister urged citizens to remain vigilant against efforts aimed at restoring authoritarian politics.

According to the minister, any attempt to bring back forces accused of past repression and violence must be firmly resisted. He stressed the need for a national roadmap to ensure that no future government can drift toward authoritarian rule.

The minister also emphasized the importance of building a democratic and law-based society for future generations. He acknowledged that mistakes can occur in governance but said progress depends on recognizing and correcting those errors rather than repeating them.

Referring to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he called for unity, accountability, and a commitment to democratic values. He warned that the country must not only prevent the return of authoritarianism but also guard against adopting authoritarian tendencies itself.

In his remarks, Asaduzzaman further urged political actors to move beyond what he described as a culture of “opposition for the sake of opposition” and instead focus on policies and actions that contribute to national development and public welfare.
