Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, the former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, has been suspended following corruption allegations.

Although the Law and Justice Ministry issued the suspension order on September 29, the matter became public today.

According to the ministry notice, “In consultation with the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, District Judge Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, currently posted to the Law and Justice Division, has been suspended under Rule 11 of the Bangladesh Judicial Service (Discipline) Rules, 2017.”

It further mentioned that a departmental case has been initiated against him under Rule 2(cha) of the same rules for alleged misconduct.

The statement added, “Given the seriousness of the allegations, the authorities deemed it appropriate to suspend him from duty.”During the suspension, he will receive subsistence allowance as per the regulations, and the order has come into immediate effect.

Earlier in April, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had requested information on 15 judges as part of an inquiry into alleged illegal asset accumulation — Rezaul was one of them.
