According to the Fire Service, incidents of fire broke out in three buses — two in Jatrabari and one in Uttara — late Monday night in the capital.

Additionally, a private car left abandoned in the Bashundhara residential area caught fire the same night.

Anwarul Islam, an official from the Fire Service’s media cell, told Prothom Alo on Tuesday morning that the first fire was reported around 12:45 a.m. in a Rajdhani Paribahan bus at Rayerbagh, Jatrabari. Another fire was reported around 2 a.m. in a Raida Paribahan bus near the Kazla toll plaza. The third fire, involving another Raida Paribahan bus, occurred around 4 a.m. at Janapath intersection in Uttara.

Officials confirmed that miscreants were behind the fire near Kazla toll plaza, though the causes of the other incidents have not yet been verified.

The Fire Service also stated that all three buses were parked and had no passengers on board when the fires broke out.

These incidents took place just before the online-announced “lockdown” program by the banned political party Awami League. Throughout Monday, several buses were set on fire and multiple crude bombs were detonated across Dhaka. In total, three buses were torched and ten crude bomb explosions were reported. Law enforcement agencies have since tightened security ahead of the upcoming program scheduled for Thursday, November 13.
