Tight security around ICT centring verdict on Hasina

Security measures have been significantly strengthened in and around the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) as it prepares to announce the verdict today in the case involving former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two senior associates, accused of crimes against humanity during the July Uprising.

The judgment is expected to be delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.

A multi-layered security arrangement has been put in place around the court area, with personnel from the army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Rab, police, and the Armed Police Battalion working together to ensure safety.

Vehicular movement has been curtailed on the stretch of road from the High Court entrance to Doyel Chattar, with authorities restricting all kinds of traffic.

Security officials are screening everyone entering the High Court and tribunal compound as part of the heightened vigilance.

Speaking to The Times of DHAKA, Mohammad Abdul Karim, Deputy Assistant Director of Rab-3, said that they have been instructed by senior officials to stay on high alert and strictly maintain law and order in the area.
