Several workers who were admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur after being injured in Friday’s earthquake have now returned home.

During the earthquake, 252 workers from different factories in Gazipur were hurt while rushing to evacuate the buildings in panic. Most of them received treatment and were discharged. As of Saturday morning, at least 16 workers remain hospitalized.

Reports indicate that workers from 7–8 factories across Shreepur, Gazipur Sadar, and Tongi areas panicked during the tremor and rushed to exit. Many complained that factory gates were closed for safety, causing confusion and resulting in injuries as workers tried to flee in different directions.

The injured were taken to Shreepur Upazila Health Complex, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, Tongi Ahsan Ullah Master Hospital, and other medical facilities.

Dr. Aminul Islam, director of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, said 85 injured workers were initially admitted. Currently, 14 remain hospitalized in stable condition, and two were referred to Dhaka for further treatment. The rest have returned home after receiving care.

Gazipur Industrial Area Police Superintendent Amjad Hossain confirmed that the factories where workers were injured have reopened, and production has resumed normally.

Civil Surgeon Mamunur Rahman also stated that most injured workers have returned home, and those still in the hospital are stable.

The earthquake, which struck at 10:38 a.m. on Friday, caused widespread panic in Gazipur. Residents of high-rise buildings, offices, factories, and shops rushed to open spaces as the tremor shook the city. Many workers were injured while trying to evacuate industrial sites during the chaos.
