A local businessman in Savar, Md. Suman Sheikh, has filed a police complaint accusing two individuals — one a former Awami League affiliate now associated with the BNP’s affiliated group, and the other a fugitive in a past murder case — of embezzling a large sum of money and issuing threats to his life.
According to the complaint, Suman claims that Nasir Uddin, a former leader of the ruling party’s local unit who has since become active in the BNP’s affiliated organization “Sainik Dal,” along with his close associate Abu Sayeed, accepted 3.5 million taka from him in the context of a business partnership. Despite documented proof of the transactions, Suman alleges the pair later refused to repay the amount and resorted to threats and intimidation.
“In the beginning, they kept delaying the payment,” said Suman. “Then they outright denied owing anything. When I insisted, they started threatening me. I was warned that if I continued to demand repayment, I would be killed.”
Suman also provided an audio recording in which Nasir can allegedly be heard verbally abusing and threatening him. He claims hired individuals have been sent to his home multiple times in an attempt to coerce or intimidate him, forcing him into hiding for his own safety.
Locals confirm that Nasir was once actively involved with the Awami League in Savar but now holds a senior position within a BNP-aligned organization. His associate, Abu Sayeed, is reportedly wanted in a previous murder case and is known to wield significant influence in the region.
When contacted for comment, Nasir Uddin reportedly dismissed the accusations with hostility, stating, “Tell Suman to come in front of me — I’ll rip his heart out.” He also denied any ongoing political allegiance, saying, “Almost 90% of the country was involved in Awami League politics at some point. I was too. What I am now — you can ask Aman Government or Bodi.”
Suman’s family has called for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action to ensure justice and safety for their loved one.
