Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), stated that the key demands that motivated last year’s July Uprising have yet to be realized.

Addressing an event on International Youth Day at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday, Nahid called for a thorough evaluation of the changes since the Awami League government was ousted in August 2024, according to bdnews24.com.

He said, “We need to review what progress has been made, what the youth have accomplished, and how the nation has transformed. Without such reflection, setting future goals will be impossible.”

Describing the July Uprising as “unfinished,” Nahid accused certain vested interests of betraying the youth and attempting to undermine the 2024 movement, which began as an anti-quota protest and later grew into a widespread uprising.

He added, “The situation is far from resolved. Those eager to declare it over are mistaken. The spirit of the Uprising remains strong at the grassroots level. Although we have made some concessions over the past year, there will be no compromise on the July Charter—not even a fraction.”

Nahid warned, “Until the commitments we made, and those made by the government in memory of the martyrs’ sacrifices, are fulfilled, no government will endure and no party will secure power.
