A scheduled press conference on electoral seat-sharing among Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and ten allied parties has been postponed.
In a press statement issued around 2:15 pm on Wednesday, Jamaat-e-Islami announced that the briefing, which was set to take place later in the afternoon, would not go ahead due to unavoidable reasons.
The statement said the press conference of the 11-party movement, originally planned for 4:30 pm on January 14, had been deferred. A new date will be announced later.
Speaking by phone, Hamidur Rahman Azad, coordinator of the 11-party alliance and assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, said some preparations were still incomplete, making it necessary to postpone the event.
Earlier in the day, Jamaat had circulated an invitation to journalists stating that a press conference would be held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the capital, where senior leaders of the 11 parties were expected to formally announce their final seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming national parliamentary election.
