Mirza Abbas Leads in 12 Centers of Dhaka-8 Constituency

According to unofficial results received after vote counting, Mirza Abbas, the candidate representing the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, is currently ahead in 12 polling centers of the Dhaka-8 constituency by a margin of 926 votes.
Following the conclusion of voting on Thursday (February 12), ballots were counted at the centers, and preliminary figures revealed that Abbas secured 7,423 votes across the 12 centers. His closest rival, Nasir Uddin Patwary, contesting with the “Water Lily” symbol, received 6,497 votes.
Earlier in the day, voting began at 7:30 a.m. and continued uninterrupted until 4:30 p.m. After polling ended, counting commenced at centers nationwide.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah stated that the official results of the 13th National Parliamentary Election will be compiled from across the country and formally announced on Friday morning.
According to sources at the Election Commission, voting was held in 299 parliamentary constituencies, as polling in Sherpur-3 was suspended due to the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate. A total of 127,711,893 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots, including 64,825,361 male voters and 62,885,200 female voters. The election was conducted in 42,779 polling centers, with 50 political parties participating. Of the 2,028 candidates contesting the election, 1,755 were nominated by political parties and 273 ran as independents.
In addition to electing Members of Parliament, voters were also asked to cast a “Yes” or “No” vote on the proposed implementation of the “July Charter 2025,” which seeks comprehensive constitutional reforms.
