The National Citizen Committee has dismissed four members of two representative committees following allegations of affiliation with the Awami League and Jubo League, drug abuse, and smuggling. This decision was announced on Monday through separate statements issued by the committee’s convener Nasiruddin Patwary and member secretary Akhtar Hossain.
Among those dismissed is Sharif Bakaul, a member of the Khilgaon Thana Representative Committee, for his association with Jubo League. Similarly, Nazrul Islam, a member of the Katiadi Upazila Representative Committee in Kishoreganj, was dismissed for ties with the Awami League. Additionally, Imranul Haque and Al Mamun, members of the same committee, were removed for aiding fascism, drug abuse, and involvement in drug trafficking.
In one statement, Nasiruddin Patwary and Akhtar Hossain mentioned that the Khilgaon Thana Representative Committee was formed on November 26, and allegations surfaced that Sharif Bakaul was a worker of Ward No. 1 Jubo League under Dhaka South. After verification, the allegations were confirmed.
In another statement, they noted that the Katiadi Upazila Representative Committee in Kishoreganj was established on December 18. Member Nazrul Islam was found to have supported Sohorab Uddin, president of the Pakundia Upazila Awami League, during the January 7, 2024, dummy elections. Imranul Haque and Al Mamun, recommended by Nazrul Islam, were also found guilty of aiding fascist activities and engaging in drug-related offenses.
