Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for the mass killings during the July-August uprisings, even if it causes a delay in the upcoming elections. Speaking as the chief guest at a workers’ conference organized by the Jamaat district unit in Sunamganj, he criticized the country’s political climate, accusing those in power of engaging in deceptive politics that prevent real change. He also referenced the execution of several Jamaat leaders, asserting their courage and unwavering stance even in the face of death. Dr. Shafiq condemned the actions of former Supreme Court judge Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, linking his fate to the misuse of his position. Furthermore, he discussed the brain drain, noting that while the brightest minds now leave the country for education, in the past, foreign powers sought fortune in Bangladesh. On education, he promised that Jamaat would prioritize creating a modern, job-oriented system for graduates. He also defended the integrity of his party’s activists, highlighting their role in providing security for religious communities and standing against corruption. Dr. Shafiq concluded by asserting that if Jamaat comes to power, Sunamganj will see rapid development, but if not, they will continue to fight alongside the people for progress.
