Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), stated that a new constitution and a constituent assembly election are essential to establish a new republic. He emphasized that a new Bangladesh is not possible under the old constitution and governance system. Speaking to the press after paying tribute to the martyrs at the National Memorial in Savar on Tuesday morning, he also expressed a desire for swift justice regarding the July massacre, stressing that the political decisions regarding the trial must be made on Bangladeshi soil. Nahid Islam further mentioned that the NCP would work towards the establishment of a Second Republic and would soon apply for party registration with the Election Commission after meeting the necessary conditions. He also highlighted the party’s first goal of expanding its activities at the grassroots level. During the visit, Nahid Islam, along with other party leaders and activists, paid floral tributes at the memorial and stood in silent homage. Among the attendees were NCP’s convener Nahid Islam, general secretary Akhtar Hossain, and other district and upazila leaders.
