Australia has upgraded Bangladesh to Assessment Level 1 in its student visa category, placing it ahead of India and China, which remain at Level 2. This decision, announced by Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, marks a significant milestone for Bangladeshi students.
With the new status, Bangladeshi applicants will now face a faster, easier, and less expensive visa process. Complex sponsorship requirements will be reduced, tuition fee regulations will be more manageable, and overall documentation will be simpler compared to before.
Since 2018, Bangladesh had been placed under Assessment Level 3, which made the visa procedure more complicated and costly for students. The recent upgrade removes many of these barriers, making it far more convenient for Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education in Australia.
The new rules will apply to all applications submitted on or after September 30, 2025.
