The damaged Building 7 at the Secretariat has reopened following the recent fire. While the lower five floors of the nine-story structure are now operational, the top four floors, which were severely burned, remain closed except to Public Works Department officials. Employees returned to their offices 11 days after the fire, signaling a gradual return to normalcy at the Secretariat.
Despite reopening, traces of the fire remain, including blackened floors covered in ash, and ongoing cleaning efforts are visible. Water and electricity supply to the building is yet to be restored. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of December 25, took nearly six hours to bring under control and required around ten hours to be fully extinguished.
A preliminary investigation led by the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs attributes the fire to an electrical “loose connection.”
