Bangladesh continues to struggle with dengue, with 593 new cases and three additional deaths reported over the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Since January, the country’s cumulative number of dengue infections has risen to 89,486, with the death toll reaching 356, highlighting an ongoing public health challenge.
The recent fatalities include a 2-year-old boy from Bhola, a 50-year-old man from Barguna—both treated at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital—and an 18-year-old woman who passed away at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Dhaka remains the hardest-hit area, with both city corporations seeing the highest number of new hospital admissions. DNCC reported 211 cases, the largest in the country, followed by DSCC with 78 cases.
Outside the capital, Chattogram and Barishal divisions also saw notable increases. Chattogram (excluding city corporations) recorded 97 cases, while Barishal Division logged 90 cases. Dhaka Division outside the city corporations reported 88 cases, and Khulna Division saw 29.
The DGHS also noted that 628 patients were discharged during the same 24-hour period, providing a slight relief amid rising case numbers.
Young adults continue to be the most affected, particularly those aged 21–30, who made up the bulk of new infections—81 cases in the 21–25 age group and 90 in the 26–30 range. This demographic, along with patients aged 31–50, has also seen high mortality rates, with each group recording over 50 deaths.
Men accounted for 62.6% of new infections, while women made up 37.4%, reflecting patterns often tied to occupation and mobility.
Since the start of the year, dengue cases have remained heavily concentrated in Dhaka, with DSCC reporting over 21,600 cases and 165 deaths, and DNCC recording more than 15,200 cases and 61 fatalities.
