Vote counting is progressing rapidly in Dhaka-11, one of the capital’s key constituencies, in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Based on preliminary results from 61 out of 162 polling centers, Nahid Islam, the candidate of the 11-party alliance, is currently leading over the BNP contender.

According to data provided by the Election Commission and polling stations, a total of 62,864 votes have been counted from the 61 centers so far. Nahid Islam, contesting with the “Water Lily Bud” symbol, has secured 31,966 votes. His closest rival, BNP candidate M A Kaiyum, who is running with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, has received 30,898 votes. At this stage, Nahid Islam is ahead by 1,068 votes.

From the beginning, the contest between the two candidates was expected to be highly competitive, and the early results reflect that close battle.

Regarding the referendum vote counted from these 61 centers, 46,827 voters supported “Yes,” while 14,503 voted “No.”

Since early morning, there has been a strong voter turnout in areas such as Rampura, Badda, and nearby neighborhoods. Candidates from youth-focused parties and alliances have drawn notable attention from voters. Although M A Kaiyum is a well-known figure in the constituency, Nahid Islam, representing a younger leadership, appears to have built significant support around his party symbol.

Voting began at 7:30 a.m. and continued until 4:30 p.m. Following the conclusion of polling, vote counting started across the country at the respective centers.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah stated that the official nationwide results will be compiled and formally announced on Friday morning.

According to Election Commission sources, voting took place in 299 constituencies, as polling in Sherpur-3 was postponed due to the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate. A total of 127,711,893 voters were eligible to cast their ballots, including 64,825,361 male voters and 62,885,200 female voters. The election was conducted in 42,779 polling centers, with 50 political parties participating. Out of 2,028 candidates, 1,755 were nominated by political parties and 273 ran as independents.

In addition to electing Members of Parliament, voters were also asked to vote “Yes” or “No” on a proposal to implement the “July Charter 2025,” aimed at introducing major constitutional reforms.
