Bangladesh Holds 94-Run Lead as Day Concludes

Bangladesh had a brilliant day in the Rawalpindi Test, finishing their first innings with a score of 565, taking a lead of 117 runs. By the end of the day, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team still holds a lead of 94 runs. Pakistan, in their second innings, scored 23 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Bangladesh set a new record for their highest innings total against Pakistan in Test cricket, scoring 565 runs. This gave them a lead of 117 runs over the hosts.

Bangladesh Halts at 565 with a 117-Run Lead

In response to Pakistan’s first innings declaration at 448/6, Bangladesh ended their innings at 565 in 167.3 overs. This is Bangladesh’s highest score in a Test match against Pakistan, surpassing their previous best of 557/9 in Khulna in 2015.

Mushfiqur Rahim narrowly missed out on his fourth double century, getting dismissed for 191 off 341 balls. His innings included 22 boundaries and a six. After Mushfiqur’s departure, Bangladesh could only add 37 more runs, with Shariful Islam contributing 22 off 14 balls.

Naseem Shah was Pakistan’s most successful bowler, taking three wickets. Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Ali, and Khurram Shahzad each took two wickets.

Mushfiqur Falls Short of Double Century by 9 Runs

Mushfiqur Rahim came agonizingly close to his fourth double century before being caught behind off Mohammad Ali for 191. His partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz was worth 196 runs. This was Mushfiqur’s first century against Pakistan, as he faced 341 balls, hitting 22 fours and a six.

Bangladesh ended their first innings at 565, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz remaining unbeaten on 67. This score gave Bangladesh a lead of 83 runs over Pakistan.

Bangladesh Surpasses Pakistan’s Total, Secures Lead

After Pakistan declared their first innings at 448/6, Bangladesh was on the back foot. However, thanks to the efforts of their batsmen, they turned the game around, taking a first-innings lead. Mushfiqur Rahim led the charge with a century, and by the end of 137 overs, Bangladesh had scored 450/6, securing a 2-run lead at that point.

Mushfiqur Rahim started the day by building a partnership of 52 runs with Shadman Islam. Though his partnership with Shakib Al Hasan didn’t last long, he formed a significant 114-run partnership with Liton Das. Despite Liton getting out for 56 runs, Mushfiqur continued to build on the innings, eventually reaching his 11th Test century.
