Bangladesh plans to build two significant bridges by 2032–2033, with a combined estimated cost of Tk 33,423 crore, aimed at improving regional connectivity.
The Bhola–Barishal Bridge, stretching 10.86 km and costing Tk 17,466 crore, will become the longest bridge in the country. It is expected to raise GDP by 0.86% over the next 30 years and facilitate the transmission of natural gas from Bhola into the national grid.
The Shariatpur–Chandpur (Meghna) Bridge, 8 km long and valued at Tk 15,957 crore, will reduce travel distance between Khulna and Chattogram by 90 km and directly connect 32 districts.
The government is exploring funding options, including ultra-low-interest loans from South Korea’s EDCF and private-public partnership support from Japan. Preliminary surveys and feasibility studies have been completed, though final designs and cost allocations are still under review.
Once completed, these projects are expected to significantly enhance trade, transportation, and regional development across southern Bangladesh.
