At an event on December 30 in Dhaka, where financial assistance was provided to over a hundred martyr families in the second phase, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor for Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources, warned of attempts to create division surrounding the July uprising. She urged martyr families to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of unity and the need to secure justice. She highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting these families, mentioning the establishment of a foundation to provide financial aid and rehabilitation.
Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, reiterated that martyr families seek justice, not financial support. He stressed that holding the perpetrators accountable is the interim government’s top priority, warning against any compromises in this regard. Alam also called for officially declaring the martyrs as national heroes, stating that a preliminary list of martyrs would soon be published as a gazette.
