Further Discussions Needed to Implement the Declaration: Asif Nazrul

Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Legal Advisor to the Interim Government, stated that a decision has been made regarding the July Declaration, emphasizing the need for further discussions to make it effective. He mentioned the possibility of forming a committee to advance the work and highlighted that the declaration would be documented with unanimous input from political parties. A comprehensive strategy will soon be outlined to proceed efficiently.
On Thursday, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus convened a meeting at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka to discuss the draft of the July Declaration with various political parties and stakeholders. Representatives from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Ganosamhati Andolon, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Baisammobirodhi Chhatro Andolon, National Citizens’ Committee, and others were present. Following the meeting, Dr. Asif Nazrul briefed the media alongside the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.
Dr. Nazrul noted that all attendees agreed on the necessity of drafting the July Uprising Declaration. He shared that several suggestions had been made, emphasizing inclusivity, continuity, and clarity regarding the political or legal nature of the document. He also highlighted the importance of consensus and meaningful discussion among political allies and the public in shaping the declaration.
Regarding the timeline for the declaration, Dr. Nazrul explained that while participants urged thorough deliberation, unnecessary delays should be avoided. Many proposed forming a dedicated committee to ensure progress. He assured that these recommendations would be swiftly reviewed to finalize a course of action.
