Home Affairs Adviser Assures Security for Pohela Boishakh Celebrations

The Home Affairs Adviser, Lieutenant General (retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has confirmed that there are no security threats regarding the celebration of Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year. He assured that this year’s celebrations would be extensive, and additional security measures have been implemented to ensure a safe environment. He emphasized that every necessary action would be taken to maintain security and prevent any disruptions.

 

Speaking at a meeting on law and order arrangements for Pohela Boishakh celebrations on Tuesday (April 8) at the Secretariat, he stated, “This year, the celebration of Pohela Boishakh will be grand, and we have increased security measures accordingly. We will ensure everything is in place to prevent any disturbance.”

 

When asked about the interim government’s performance regarding law and order over the past eight months, the adviser remarked, “I am as satisfied as you are.”

 

Regarding incidents of vandalism at various foreign company shops, including Bata, he assured that security would be enhanced in such areas. He further mentioned that the perpetrators had already been arrested, with 49 individuals detained so far. “I am committed to ensuring that such incidents do not recur,” he added.

 

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mustafa Sarwar Faruki also addressed the media, stating that the decision on whether the New Year’s procession would be called ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’ would be made by Dhaka University, and the final decision would be made on April 10. He also shared that the event would witness a large turnout, with participation from 26 ethnic communities besides the Bengali popuation.
