Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has urged all citizens not to take the law into their own hands, emphasizing that enforcing the law is solely the responsibility of law enforcement agencies. He assured that action is being taken against lawbreakers without any bias or favoritism—anyone violating the law will be brought to justice.

Speaking to journalists after visiting Sylhet Metropolitan Police’s Airport Police Station on Thursday, the adviser noted that while the public has high expectations from the police, the force continues to face challenges such as inadequate housing and basic amenities. He stressed the need for collective efforts to improve these conditions and provide necessary support to the police.

Addressing the overall law and order situation, he said that significant improvements were observed during Ramadan, despite criticism. On the issue of suspects being taken from police custody, he mentioned that such individuals were successfully recovered but highlighted the need for cooperation from journalists and the public. Delays in taking action sometimes stem from shortages in police vehicles and other logistical limitations.

Regarding illegal weapons, he admitted that recoveries have not met expectations but reaffirmed that efforts are ongoing. When asked about updates on the Interpol notice concerning ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he stated that there has been no new development and updates will be shared when available.
