Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Advisor on Home Affairs and Agriculture, has sought increased Japanese support to enhance Bangladesh’s agricultural production and management. During a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Saida Shinichi at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday afternoon (April 30), the advisor acknowledged Japan as a key development partner and long-standing friend of Bangladesh. He praised Japan’s contributions, particularly through JICA, and expressed hope for even greater collaboration in future agricultural projects.
The discussion covered bilateral cooperation in areas such as post-harvest crop management, agro-processing and marketing, climate-resilient smart agriculture, irrigation, water resource management, and Bangladesh’s participation in the 2027 International Horticulture Expo in Yokohama. The two also discussed organizing the next session of the agriculture joint working group—likely to be held in Dhaka in October or November this year—following the last session in Tokyo in May 2024.
Other topics included law enforcement reform, traffic system improvement, national security, and the upcoming parliamentary elections. In response to the ambassador’s queries, the advisor stated that law and order in Dhaka is steadily improving, and he expects continued progress with no signs of deterioration during the next general election period.
