The head of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has expressed deep concern over the health condition of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia. He has called on the people of Bangladesh to pray for her recovery.

According to a statement released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Friday evening, Professor Yunus has been receiving regular updates on Khaleda Zia’s medical condition. He has also instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that she receives every possible form of medical support.

The statement noted that the Chief Adviser wished the three-time former prime minister a swift recovery and urged the nation to keep her in their prayers. He emphasized that the government is fully prepared to provide any assistance necessary, ensuring that there are no shortcomings in her treatment.

Highlighting Khaleda Zia’s influence during this transitional period for the country, Professor Yunus said that she remains an important source of inspiration. He stressed that her well-being is vital for the nation and directed all concerned officials to stay fully prepared and coordinated in providing continuous support.

Khaleda Zia is currently being treated in the Coronary Care Unit of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, under the supervision of a medical board comprising specialists from both Bangladesh and abroad. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated earlier in the day that her condition remains extremely critical.

Nearly 80 years old, Khaleda Zia has long suffered from multiple chronic health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications. She was rushed to Evercare Hospital last Sunday after developing breathing difficulties. Doctors later confirmed infections in her heart and lungs.

She had traveled to London on January 7 for advanced treatment and returned to Bangladesh on May 6 after spending 117 days there. Since her return, she has had to be hospitalized several times due to recurring health complications.
