A BNP leader has been killed in a shooting incident following a land dispute in Ishwardi of Pabna.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning in Kamalpur village under Lakshmikunda Union. The victim, Biru Mondol (48), was the convener of the Lakshmikunda Union BNP and the son of Abdul Mollah of the same village.

According to local sources, Biru Mondol had an ongoing land-related conflict with his cousin Jahurul Mollah. On Tuesday night, Jahurul allegedly removed soil from the disputed land for use in a brick kiln. On Wednesday morning, Biru Mondol, accompanied by his supporters, went to Jahurul’s house to discuss the issue. An argument broke out between the two sides.

At one stage, Jahurul Mollah and his son reportedly brought out firearms and fired blank shots, warning Biru Mondol and his associates to leave. Moments later, they opened fire at Biru Mondol, hitting him in the head. He was critically injured and rushed to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex by local residents, where doctors declared him dead.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominuzzaman said preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from a family dispute. Police visited the scene after receiving the report, and the body has been sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The accused have fled the area, and legal proceedings are currently underway.
