Police have detained two individuals from outside the Gulshan residence of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, accusing them of taking photographs without any valid reason.

The incident took place around 12:00 pm on Sunday, when Gulshan Police arrested a private company security guard, Md Ruhul Amin, and another individual, Omar Faruk.

According to Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Rakibul Islam, Ruhul Amin was seen taking photos while standing in front of Tarique Rahman’s house. When questioned about the purpose, he failed to give any explanation.

Police said that during a body search of Omar Faruk after his detention, marijuana was recovered.

After spending 17 years in exile in the United Kingdom, Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on December 25 and moved into house number 196 on Gulshan Avenue. His wife, Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, Zaima Rahman, returned with him.

Tarique Rahman inherited the house through his father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Following Ziaur Rahman’s assassination in 1981, the then president Justice Abdus Sattar’s cabinet unanimously allocated the house to Khaleda Zia. The property was formally handed over a few months ago and prepared for residence.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had lived in the adjacent house. After her death on December 30, the family’s farewell proceedings were held from house number 196.
