BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will travel to London on a special air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar on the night of January 7, 2025. The air ambulance is equipped with the latest medical facilities. This decision follows her ongoing health issues, including cirrhosis, heart disease, and kidney problems.

On January 5, after meeting with Khaleda Zia, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed her departure for London. He emphasized that Khaleda, a staunch advocate for democracy and the nation’s sovereignty, would travel for medical treatment with Allah’s blessings.

Khaleda, 79, has been battling various health complications for an extended period. She will first visit her son, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in London. After a few days, she is expected to travel to the United States for advanced treatment for her liver condition. Her treatment will take place at the Multi-Disciplinary Care Unit of Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, where documents and reports regarding her medical condition have already been sent.

In October 2024, a team of three specialists from Johns Hopkins visited Dhaka to conduct medical procedures to manage her liver fluid accumulation and bleeding at Evercare Hospital. This team will now oversee her liver transplant treatment.
