BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that holding elections will resolve the country’s crises. Speaking as the chief guest at the AB Party’s national council on Saturday at Suhrawardy Udyan, he emphasized the need for both reforms and immediate elections. “We support an interim government. However, the country’s economy is in a dire state, and the political situation is fragile. Elections are crucial to overcoming these challenges,” he remarked.

Mirza Fakhrul reflected on the struggles for democracy over the past 16 years, highlighting the unity within the party despite attempts to create division. He urged patience and cautioned against impulsive decisions, while expressing hope for building a new nation. He also condemned the filing of false cases against BNP leaders and activists, mentioning that 60 lakh individuals have been implicated, 700 have been forcibly disappeared, and around 20,000 have been killed. He reiterated the party’s vision of forming a unified national government to fulfill the collective dream for the country.

The conference also announced the election of Mujibur Rahman Manju as the AB Party’s chairman and Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad as general secretary for the next three years.
