BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed dissatisfaction following a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, stating that the adviser failed to provide a clear deadline for the upcoming national election. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (April 16) after a nearly two-hour discussion at the state guest house Jamuna, Fakhrul said that while Dr. Yunus mentioned the election would be held between December and June, this lack of specificity was concerning. He warned that without elections by December, the country could face worsening political, economic, and social crises that may become difficult to control.

Meanwhile, Legal Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul reiterated that regardless of what other advisers may say, the Chief Adviser’s word is final. He stated that although the election may not take place in December, it would certainly not extend beyond June under any circumstances, stressing that there is no room for delay.

The meeting began around 12:15 PM, attended by several government advisers. Representing BNP were Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Jamir Uddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

This was the second meeting in two months, following an earlier assurance by Dr. Yunus in February that elections could be held by December. However, recent conflicting remarks from various advisers have created ambiguity, prompting BNP to demand a concrete electoral roadmap.
