Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has marked International Mother’s Day by paying tribute to the timeless role of mothers. Describing motherhood as the embodiment of unconditional love and care, he stated that the word “mother” holds within it an ocean of tenderness and affection.

In a message issued on the occasion, he extended heartfelt greetings to all mothers in Bangladesh and across the globe, wishing them continued peace, happiness, and prosperity. Tarique Rahman emphasized that although love for one’s mother is eternal, Mother’s Day serves as a special occasion to honor and appreciate their invaluable role within families and society. He described mothers as a “remarkable institution,” shaping the future of children through compassion and guidance.

He also reflected on the powerful impact of mothers in nurturing and protecting their children through life’s many struggles. “In the presence of a wise and caring mother, a child’s true humanity is awakened,” he said, highlighting how many cultures observe Mother’s Day to acknowledge this unique bond.

Recalling the contributions of Begum Khaleda Zia, he referred to her as a torchbearer of women’s education and hailed her lifelong dedication to democracy and social development. He noted that during BNP’s time in power, significant steps were taken to promote female education and prevent school dropouts among girls, a cause championed by Khaleda Zia.

Tarique Rahman concluded by expressing hope that all mothers will be able to raise their children as capable, conscientious citizens. He stressed that it is only a devoted and enlightened mother who can guide her child along the right path from an early age.
