BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has warned that if the upcoming national election is delayed, the youth will respond strongly. Speaking at a youth rally organized by three affiliated organizations of the BNP on Wednesday (May 28) at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, he directed his message toward the interim government. He stated that if meaningful reforms are not carried out, the people themselves will bring about those changes, not through the words of those currently in power.

Amir Khasru added that the BNP will ensure justice for enforced disappearances, killings, torture, and the July massacre. He questioned where those currently speaking of justice would have been without Sheikh Hasina’s rule coming to an end. He reiterated that any attempt to delay the election would be met with a response from the youth.

Another BNP Standing Committee member, Mirza Abbas, emphasized that the people of Bangladesh are not fools. Referring to regional connectivity deals, he said, “There is no need to assess profit or loss over corridors—we simply want to remain as we are.” Addressing the interim authorities, he criticized their failure to hold elections even after nine months, adding provocatively, “I’ve heard the map of Bangladesh might change—will it shrink or expand?”
