BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that since the Election Commission (EC) is already formed, there is no need to delay the elections. He emphasized that the public expects a clear statement from the Chief Advisor on the matter.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Thursday morning, Mirza Fakhrul mentioned that necessary electoral reforms could be completed promptly to facilitate an early election. Referring to the BNP Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday, he noted that Nobel Laureate Dr. Yunus’s remarks on the election were ambiguous and lacked specific details.

Mirza Fakhrul further criticized the Chief Advisor’s recent Victory Day address to the nation, where he mentioned elections could be held in December 2025 or the first half of 2026. He stated that this timeline is unclear and inconsistent, especially since the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary later mentioned June 2026. Such contradictory statements, he warned, could create confusion among the public.
