A high-level delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is set to visit China later this June. The visit comes following an invitation from the Communist Party of China (CPC), as confirmed by BNP’s media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.

This upcoming tour marks another step in China’s ongoing engagement with Bangladesh’s political landscape, especially in the aftermath of Sheikh Hasina’s departure from power on August 5, 2024. Since then, China has been working to strengthen ties with the BNP and other Islamist parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, through exchanges and dialogue.

The CPC places significant emphasis on building direct relationships with political parties in neighboring countries. Through regular meetings and mutual visits, China aims to foster lasting political friendships. While the CPC has previously invited various Bangladeshi parties, this invitation is notable for its direct engagement with BNP’s top leadership.

Sources suggest that, alongside enhancing bilateral ties, discussions during this visit may touch upon Bangladesh’s current political dynamics and the upcoming national elections.

Earlier, in late May, a BNP delegation attended an international political conference in Beijing, where they engaged in dialogue with political leaders from Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia, and Central Asia.

Earlier this year, in February and March, another BNP delegation, along with representatives from seven other political parties, also visited China at the CPC’s invitation. That group was led by Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan on behalf of BNP.
