BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that the longer the delay in elections, the greater the challenges will become, as fascist elements still dominate government institutions. Speaking at a national dialogue organized by the Forum for Bangladesh Studies in Dhaka on Friday, December 27, he emphasized the need to reform institutions and structures to align with democratic values.
Regarding elections, he reiterated BNP’s commitment to political reform, citing the Vision 2030 plan introduced in 2016 and the 31-point state reform framework proposed in 2022. He stressed the importance of undertaking necessary reforms in collaboration with the people, rejecting the imposition of decisions on them. Fakhrul also criticized the Awami League for filing false cases against 6 million BNP activists, forcibly disappearing over 700 members, and killing 20,000 people in the past 16 years. He further suggested that reform commissions should engage with political parties to facilitate progress.
