On the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman extended greetings to members of the Hindu community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (17 September) by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Tarique Rahman emphasized the need for vigilance and preparation to resist any attempts at creating unrest during the festival.

He noted that Durga Puja, the largest religious celebration for the Hindu community, has long been observed peacefully in Bangladesh with cooperation from people of all faiths, serving as a strong example of communal harmony.

Tarique Rahman alleged that in the past, certain beneficiaries of previous authoritarian regimes had tried to disrupt this harmony during Durga Puja with politically motivated acts, creating tensions. He warned that conspiracies of that kind had not fully ended and stressed that the nation must remain alert this year.

He reaffirmed respect for the religious rights of every citizen, pledging BNP’s commitment to preserving interfaith harmony and firmly opposing any attempt to undermine it.

Finally, he urged BNP leaders, activists, and allied organizations to work together and provide full support to ensure a safe and smooth celebration of Durga Puja across the country.
