Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government, announced that over 12.6 million individuals are currently benefiting from social safety net programs. In his message on National Social Service Day 2025, he highlighted the impact of technology in delivering allowances directly to people’s doorsteps via mobile financial services and banks through the G2P system. For the fiscal year 2024-25, a total allocation of 10,559.94 crore BDT has been made for these programs.

Expressing satisfaction over the celebration of National Social Service Day, Dr. Yunus praised this year’s theme, “No One to Stand by You? Social Services Are Here,” as highly relevant. He commended the relentless efforts of the Ministry of Social Welfare and its Department of Social Services (DSS) in supporting vulnerable groups, including the poor, elderly, disadvantaged children, widows, abused women, critically ill patients, and marginalized communities.

Dr. Yunus noted that despite limited resources and manpower, DSS has successfully implemented 54 welfare programs, providing essential medical and social services, including aiding victims of events like the July uprising. Finally, he wished success for all initiatives undertaken to mark National Social Service Day 2025.
