Bangladesh’s interim government chief advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has sought Meta’s support to counter misleading propaganda about the country.
On Sunday, Professor Yunus made this appeal during a meeting with Miranda Sissons, Meta’s Director of Human Rights Policy.
During the discussion, the chief advisor highlighted, “Widespread misinformation campaigns are ongoing, and Bangladesh is one of their victims.” He noted that certain nations are spreading propaganda against Bangladesh to undermine the achievements of the July-August uprising.
In response, Meta’s director explained the company’s commitment to human rights policies and assured vigilance to prevent the misuse of its platforms for spreading misinformation.
Professor Yunus also urged Meta to make technology more accessible for young entrepreneurs, emphasizing the potential of Facebook as a tool to nurture entrepreneurship among the youth. He stated, “Facebook offers immense opportunities, and we can utilize it to build a generation of young entrepreneurs. The Bangladeshi government is committed to collaborating with Facebook for the benefit of its youth.”
