China Greets Dr. Yunus with a Grand Reception

Interim Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus received a red-carpet reception and a warm welcome upon his arrival in China. His plane landed at Qionghai Boao Airport in Hainan Province at 4:15 PM Bangladesh time on Wednesday (March 26). At the airport, Chinese officials extended a warm reception, with a red carpet laid out from the aircraft stairs to the waiting vehicle.
Welcoming him at the airport were Wang Junshuo, Vice Governor of the Hainan Provincial People’s Government, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to China, Nazmul Islam. This marks Dr. Yunus’s first visit to China as Chief Adviser, and it is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
During his trip, he will attend the 2025 Boao Forum for Asia’s annual conference on March 27. On March 28, he is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
According to Foreign Affairs Adviser Tawhid Hossain, no major agreements will be signed during this visit, but some Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) may be finalized. Experts believe that due to the interim government’s limited tenure, large-scale agreements are unlikely, but the signed MoUs could pave the way for future administrations.
During the Beijing leg of his visit, six to eight MoUs are expected to be signed, along with four major announcements. China may pledge $1-2 billion in loan assistance for various projects in Bangladesh, including the modernization of Mongla Port.
