On the occasion of Bengali New Year 1432, Interim Government’s Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, extended warm greetings to the nation through a video message on Sunday, April 13. Marking the first day of the new year on Monday (April 14), Dr. Yunus conveyed heartfelt wishes, describing Pahela Boishakh as a day of unity and grand reunion for all Bengalis.

He highlighted how, regardless of religion or background, the entire Bengali nation embraces the new year with renewed spirit and commitment. It is a time, he said, when people come together in the spirit of harmony, friendship, and love—leaving behind the sorrows, burdens, and frustrations of the past year.

Reflecting on the origins of the celebration, Dr. Yunus noted that Bengali New Year began during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar, who introduced the “Fasli Year” to streamline agricultural practices. Over time, this tradition has evolved into a secular symbol of unity for Bengalis everywhere.

Calling on the nation to move forward with new hope, he stated that the 2024 mass uprising has opened the door to building a more equitable Bangladesh. It serves as inspiration to work toward an inclusive, happy, prosperous, peaceful, and vibrant future.

Dr. Yunus concluded by wishing success to all initiatives undertaken in celebration of the new year.
