Interim government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus addressed the nation at 10 AM today (Monday) on the occasion of Victory Day. His speech was broadcast on Bangladesh Television and BTV World.
During his address, Dr. Yunus highlighted the potential timeline for the country’s next general election. He stated, “I have repeatedly emphasized the need to complete key reforms before holding the election. However, if political consensus dictates that only minimal reforms are carried out and the voter list is accurately prepared, the election could potentially be held by late 2025. On the other hand, if comprehensive reforms based on the Election Reform Commission’s recommendations and national consensus are incorporated into the process, an additional six months may be required. In broader terms, the timeline for the election could be set between late 2025 and the first half of 2026.”
