Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, met with the United Kingdom’s National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell on the second day of his official visit to London. The meeting took place on Wednesday, June 11, at 9:00 a.m. local time.
During their discussion, they focused on regional and global security issues, the evolving geopolitical landscape of South Asia, and the pressing challenges posed by climate change.
Dr. Yunus’s second day in London includes a packed schedule of high-level meetings, policy dialogues, and a royal event. At 10:15 a.m., he is scheduled to meet with Ben Bland, Director of the Asia-Pacific Program at the influential think tank Chatham House, along with Dr. Chietigj Bajpaee, Senior Research Fellow for South Asia.
At 11:00 a.m., Dr. Yunus will deliver a keynote address at a policy dialogue organized by Chatham House, attended by British and international diplomats, researchers, and journalists. Following the event, Chatham House will host a reception in his honor at the Malcolm Room at 12:40 p.m.
In the evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Dr. Yunus will attend a royal banquet at St. James’s Palace, marking the 35th anniversary of The King’s Foundation, established by King Charles III. The King is expected to be present at the event, where he is likely to personally meet Dr. Yunus.
Notably, Dr. Yunus and King Charles (then Prince Charles) have previously collaborated on various international platforms focused on social business, sustainable development, and environmental protection. Both have been long-standing advocates for addressing climate crises and eradicating poverty.
Officials believe this visit will contribute to strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom and further deepen people-to-people connections. Dr. Yunus is currently in the UK on an official state visit.
