15 BSMMU Staff Suspended Over July Murder Allegations

Fifteen officials and staff members, including doctors and senior nurses at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), have been temporarily suspended for their alleged involvement in a murder incident that occurred near the cabin block area during the July mass uprising.
The decision, issued through an official order signed by Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, BSMMU Registrar, was announced on Sunday.
Those suspended include Dr. Abu Torab Ali Mim from the Cardiology Department, Dr. Riaz Siddique Pran from the Dermatology and Venereology Department, Nitish Roy (painter) from the Director (Hospital) office, Saiful Islam, Kazi Mehedi Hasan (MLSS), Shahidul Islam (assistant dresser), and Sandip (sweeper). Others named are Ujjal Molla (Respiratory Medicine Department office assistant), Sujan Bishwas Sharma (driver, transport department), Fakrul Islam Jony (MLSS, OPD-1), and Rubel Rana (customer care attendant, Laboratory Service Center). The list also includes Shabnam Noorani (senior staff nurse, Super Specialized Hospital), Shahadat (MLSS, Ward Master Office), Munna Ahmed (MLSS, Cardiology Department), and Anwar Hossain (MLSS, Ward Master Office).
The suspension order, effective January 5, 2025, cited provisions under BSMMU’s discipline and efficiency regulations. It stated that the individuals would remain entitled to salaries and allowances per university rules during the suspension, with their employment governed by regulatory provisions.
