Air pollution continues to rise globally due to climate change and urbanization, and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, remains one of the worst-affected megacities. For several consecutive days, Dhaka has ranked among the most polluted cities in the world. On Tuesday morning, April 29, the city’s air quality was again classified as “unhealthy,” with an AQI (Air Quality Index) score of 174, placing it second on the list of the world’s most polluted cities according to data from international air monitoring platform IQAir. At the same time, Lahore in Pakistan topped the list with a score of 183, followed by Delhi in India at 157, Amsterdam in the Netherlands at 155, and Hanoi in Vietnam with a score of 132. AQI scores from 0 to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, and 101 to 150 unhealthy for sensitive groups. Scores between 151 and 200 are categorized as “unhealthy,” while 201 to 300 is deemed “very unhealthy,” advising children, the elderly, and people with health conditions to stay indoors. AQI levels from 301 to 400 are considered “hazardous,” posing serious health risks to all city residents.
