Wife Killed in Bus Collision on Hanif Flyover, Husband Rushes to Hospital

A tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning, July 10, at the Gulistan toll plaza on Mayor Hanif Flyover in Dhaka, where a speeding passenger bus rammed into several motorcycles stuck in traffic, killing a pregnant woman and injuring others.
The victim, Meherunnesa Bhumi, 22, who was eight months pregnant, succumbed to her injuries around 1 PM while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Her husband, Musa Kalimullah, said they were en route to Ad-Din Hospital in Moghbazar from their home in the Madina Chattar area of Jatrabari when the incident happened. Their motorcycle became stuck in a jam on the flyover when a Manjil Paribahan bus suddenly hit multiple motorcycles from behind. Bhumi, who was riding pillion, was thrown off and severely injured.
Two others were also hurt in the crash, including Rokonuddin Ahmed Rana, 45, a motorcycle rideshare driver who was heading toward Hatirpool from Dholai Par. Rana recalled that the bus rammed into them while they were caught in the congestion.
Police from Wari Station confirmed that the bus involved was seized shortly after the incident, but the driver fled the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover further details.
