A fire broke out early Saturday morning at a house in Dhaka’s Agargaon area, leaving six members of the same family — including women and children — with burn injuries. The incident occurred around 4:30am in a residence near the Agargaon Paka Market. Initial reports suggest the blaze was triggered by a gas line leak.
The injured have been identified as Jalil Mia (50), his wife Arneza Begum (40), their sons Asif (19) and Sakib (16), their daughter Monira (17), and a six-year-old granddaughter named Eva. All of them have been admitted to the old burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The family is originally from Nalitabari in Sherpur.
According to Afran Mia, the son-in-law who brought them to the hospital, the family lived in a tin-shed house. He said a gas leak led to an explosion around dawn, catching the household members while they were asleep.
Inspector Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that the injured are currently receiving treatment at the burn unit.
