Dhaka Metro Extends Service Hours by One Hour
Starting today, Dhaka’s metro rail will operate for an extra hour each day, with trains beginning service earlier in the morning and running later into the night.
According to the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the first train now leaves at 6:30 a.m. instead of 7:10 a.m., while the final trip departs at 10:10 p.m., thirty minutes later than before.
On Fridays, the metro’s weekly holiday, trains will start running from 2:30 p.m., half an hour earlier than the previous schedule.
DMTCL announced the new timetable on Wednesday, and it officially came into effect today (Sunday).
In addition to longer operating hours, the company also plans to add more daily trips within the next month.
At present, the Uttara–Motijheel route carries over 400,000 passengers daily using 24 train sets, each with six coaches. Out of these, 12 train sets are currently in operation throughout the day.
Once the number of daily trips is increased, DMTCL expects to run 19 trains at a time, which could raise the total passenger capacity to over half a million per day.
