Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Faruq Ahmed has said that an inspection is underway to determine whether the earthquake caused any damage to Dhaka’s metro rail system.

He shared this information with a media outlet on Saturday (22 November).

When asked if the metro rail infrastructure suffered any impact from the quake, Faruq Ahmed stated that no damage had been detected and train services were operating as scheduled. However, he noted that a thorough check is still being carried out to ensure that no part of the system was affected.

Yesterday, Friday (21 November), a strong earthquake shook Dhaka and surrounding areas at 10:38 am. The epicenter was in Madhabdi of Narsingdi, about 10 kilometers below the surface. The tremor caused fatalities in several areas—three people died when a railing collapsed in Old Dhaka, while another person died after a structure fell at a construction site in Mugda. Six people in Narsingdi and one in Narayanganj also lost their lives.

According to DMTCL sources, metro rail operations were halted at the time of the quake, but services resumed later in the afternoon. Immediately after the tremors, DMTCL began inspecting tracks and stations. Test trains were run from Uttara and Motijheel before passenger operations recommenced, and no faults were found during the checks.
